Wow, two Australian Football threads in one month? Maybe we need a new Forum?! ;)

I'm guessing they will dispense with the background check requirements.

I guess when they say, "If you do not shut up I will kill you" has new meaning. ;)

Peace

I'm assuming coaches will not go as far to argue with the rulings?

JRutledge Thu Oct 07, 2010 10:26am

I guess "sticking them" has new meaning. :D

Peace

The only in Australia line? Just seemed like something you would find only in Australia.

The lines about the stripes refers to this

"A chronic shortage of umpires forced the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) officials to turn to Berrimah Prison for prospective boundary and goal umpires."

What's really ironic about this is I bet a "goal umpire" is one of the guys by the goalposts who comes out with fingers blazin' if the attempt is successful. One-handed for the one-pointer, both guns if it's in the middle (for six points).

Last night watched a few minutes on some high-numbered station with my younger son -- first time I'd watched any probably since ESPN's early days. Those goal judges are now dressed normally in pants and shirt. Seems they used to have long, white overcoats, making the "shootout" pose all the more interesting.

Donaghy might get to work again after all?

Oh that? It's a saying one of my association's JV instructors came up with. For whatever reason the newer officials were having a chronic problem with proper positioning on an front court end line throw in. Apparently they were positioning themselves between the player and the basket, rather than being outside the player. So he came up with this catchy little saying to help them remember they need to be outside the player, with the player towards the basket. I found it amusing and decided to make it my signature.
