Assault on an Official

At our local AAU complex we had an official assaulted by a parent/coach. Sucker punch and body slam has the official needing surgery. If I can get anything from the local press I will post it.

AAU -- Officiate at your own risk!

I hope this official ensures that criminal charges have been filed, and then files a civil suit that bankrupts the perpetrator.

I always tell everyone that if someone comes on the court (no one with either team) I am throwing punches first and then asking questions second. "My" court, enter at "your" own risk!

So, player A1 goes down hard after Inadvertent Contact and is laying on the court in obvious pain in what appears to be a gruesome injury. Mom, 5'1", 105 lbs, reacts instantly and runs out on the court to take care of "her baby" and is a bit emotional and angry as she approaches you. WHAM, you punch her out?!?!

While I understand your point, I think. Good luck with that......

To be fair, I do not think he is talking about someone come out to take care of their child. I think he means to come out and confront/attack or have a violent confrontation. And yes if Mom comes out there to do that, she might get punched out. ;)

Peace

+1
Even the most confrontational among us would size up the situation before responding.

I think that would be 3 T's....

One for the illegal uniform and one for entering the court without being beckoned and one for not being in the book to record the first two T's.

Not exactly the situation I was picturing in my mind...but I am 6'3" 230...I could take her. :)

Agree....while I would do everything reasonable to avoid a physical confrontation and would not initiate it, if physically attacked I would not hesitate to act in self defense and take whatever action necessary to neutralize the threat.

^^^ agreed! one more tool that any basketball official should carry around with him/her besides a whistle.. brazilian jui jitsu!! works wonders! believe me!

deecee Sat Jul 10, 2010 06:24am

I carry a brazilian super model in my pocket at all times - for situations like this i just take her out and stab the offender with her bony, pointy elbows, knees, you get the point. More entertaining than this jui jitsu you mention.

BillyMac Sat Jul 10, 2010 10:13am

Adriana Lima ...

M&M Guy Mon Jul 12, 2010 08:36am

So, this redhead is talking to her blonde friend.

Redhead: "I'm dating a brazilian."

Blonde: "You slut! I've never dated that many."

(Must be the off-season.)

Mark Padgett Mon Jul 12, 2010 11:56am

Hey M&M Guy - did you hear about the blonde who got fired from her job on the quality control line at the M&M factory? She was throwing out all the W's. :D

That's exactly why I had to get a different job. :(

And I'm not even blonde. :o

bainsey Mon Jul 12, 2010 01:43pm

(Now you've done it.)

Two blondes are on a park bench at night.
The first one asks, "What's closer, Brazil or the moon?"
"Duh!" says the other. "You can, like, see the moon from here!"

At the risk of putting this thread back on topic...

Had a JVG game about three years ago. Very physical game. The fans of the visiting team were getting a bit upset with the calls that did not go in their favor. There were a lot of fouls and the evaluator on site mentioned there were very few that we could have let go. Just one of those games...

One parent, in particular was pretty vocal, the longer the game went, the louder he got. The bleachers in this gym are all on one side, opposite the table, and right on top of the court.

I am the trail, in a two man crew, during ft administration, home team shooting and my back is to the bleachers. We are getting close to the scheduled start time of the varsity game so there is a lot of activity around the court and in the bleachers. As I put my hand up during the 2nd free throw, I do not just raise my hand as normal. Instead, I swing my left, outside arm, out away from my body to the upright position. While this is very out of the ordinary for me, I cannot explain why I did it. Anyway, I felt something just behind my hand...According to a member of the table, the aforementioned parent was irate at the last call, the 5th foul on his daughter, and was storming down the bleachers fists clenched, red in the face. As he was getting close to me, my hand nearly clipped his face. He stopped in his tracks and then exited the gym. I like to think I had something to do with it.

He could have planned on leaving anyway or he could have been heading for the court. I have no clue.

My question to the table was, if you saw him coming, why didn't you hit the horn or alert us some how that a maniac was approaching me from behind? They laughed. I didn't. I spoke the AD, he didn't care. I never worked in that gym again...this wasn't my first "incident" with that AD but it was my last.

You two guys posted with my quote just so the image would show up again.

As an experiment, I'll post another image of Adriana. Let's see if her image shows up again, in a quote, in a later post.
