Question Historical Question - Who are these referees ?

Hi, I had a historical question and have been having trouble finding anyone who can help. I'm hoping someone here knows the answer.

I recently got a copy of the book "Basketball Officiating" by former referee John Nucatola. The book was published in 1959.

In it is a photo showing the founding members of the Collegiate Basketball Officials Association (CBOA). There is no listing of the individual members.

Below is the photo.

I know that Nucatola is in the front row on the far right. I was curious if anyone could identify any of the other officials in the photo ?

Note that according to the CBOA website some of the early presidents of the organization included Sam Schoenfeld, Matty Begovich, Nucatola, Lou Eisenstein, Hagan Andersen, Ben Light, J. Dallas Shirley etc. so I assume most of these guys are in the photo somewhere.

List of past CBOA officials

Thanks

Jon

Doing some more digging, it looks like the person in the back row, second from right is J. Dallas Shirley.

J. Dallas Shirley

Any others ?

I found an accomplished college basketball player name Matty Begovich, associated with St. Johns listed as 6'5". Seems likely to be the big fella at the left side.

I sent that picture yesterday to a retired ol'(older than me, by at least 10 years) officiating buddy now living down in Tampa Bay. He came out of the old CYO parish basketball system in 50's Brooklyn and he knew Johnny Nuccatola real well. He should recognize or know a few of them, hopefully. Waiting to hear back.

Just heard back. No luck. Brooklyn Bob left Noo Yawk in '65 and moved to where I live. He said that several sure looked familiar but he can't put a name to 'em.

Thanks for checking into it. If it helps him remember, below is a listing of some of the officials who were prominent during this time (note that I assume this picture was taken circa 1948 since that was the first year there was a CBOA president).

This listing are the NCAA Championship game refs starting in 1939.

1939 - Lyle Carno, John Getchell
1940 - Gil MacDonald, Ted O'Sullivan
1941 - Wally Cameron, Bill Haarlow
1942 - Glenn Adams, Abb Curtis
1943 - Matty Begovich, Pat Kennedy
1944 - Paul Menton, James Osborne
1945 - Glenn Adams, Abb Curtis
1946 - Jocko Collins, Pat Kennedy
1947 - Hagan Anderson (also spelled Andersen), Pat Kennedy
1948 - Bill Haarlow, Gil MacDonald
1949 - Hal Lee, Tim McCullough
1950 - Lou Eisenstein, Ronald Gibbs
1951 - not listed
1952 - Lou Eisenstein, Cliff Ogden
1953 - Al Lightner, Shaw
1954 - Hagan Anderson, Dean

Other prominent officials from that time period that I know about include:

Jim Biersdorfer
Bowser Chest
Ike Craig
John DeMoisey
John Dromo
James Enright
Winton Moeller
Jammy Moskowitz
Jim Osborne
John Showalter
Dan Tehan
Fred Walters

Jurassic was in his 70's back in '59...I doubt he would know any of these younger guys.
