Maybe he just wanted to get cheap lunches?

We've all heard of former players trying to relive the glory days but this is a new one.

Another Danny Almonte.

I can understand if he passed himself off as an 18 year-old HS senior, but a 15 year-old Jr. High freshman!?!?!?

But as usual...the criminal is from Florida. It's like this place has the franchise for the bizarre.

I'm not sure that's entirely accurate either. I refrained from writing in my previous post that the young man came from Florida because that would be failing to recognize that even prior to that he came from Haiti.
But your point about FL having its issues is well-taken.

This is the disturbing part to me, "in the summer of 2009, and Montimere moved in with Permian basketball coach Danny Wright."
That alone would have red flagged his eligibility in my state. Also, does anyone really believe that the coach was totally innocent in this and was duped by the player? The young man is living with him and he can't tell that he isn't 16. Did he think that he was the 2nd coming of Lebron?
I have to question the role of the coach in this mess.

He started by going to middle school after he graduated from high school.

No, that timeline doesn't match up.

He's 22 now.
He graduated from a FL HS in 2007.

He was saying that he was 16 this past season as a HS sophomore.
So last year he would have come to TX and been at the Jr HS as a supposedly 15 year-old freshman.

That leaves two years which you are missing.

The story makes it sound like he was 21 when he started falsely attending TX schools.

From the article:
Quote:

No one heard from Montimere until he moved to Odessa under the name Jerry Joseph in February 2009. He enrolled at Nimitz Junior High as a 15-year-old, claiming he was living with his half-brother Jabari Caldwell. Caldwell — who is not actually related to Montimere — was enrolled at UTPB on a basketball scholarship. Caldwell and Montimere were teammates at Dillard High School.
You're right, the time line is messed up, but there's only one missing year, as if he went from graduating middle school in the spring of 09 to being a sophomore that fall. That makes him roughly 21 while portraying a middle school student.

What's more messed up about this is why would a 21/22 year-old want to be around kids significantly younger?
If he had a girlfriend at anytime during this deception, he could be in some serious trouble.

He already is. He's been charged with sexual assault on a minor.
