No inside information, but from the NFHS survey that we received several weeks ago, it appears that the NFHS was thinking about becoming more "flexible" with headband, and possibly wristband, colors, with all colors being legal as long as all teammates have the same color. If I recall correctly, there were also a couple of questions regarding shot clocks.

I heard they were discussing free energy drinks for officials during all timeouts. Also - each team will be required to provide only hot moms at the score table. The officials will be provided with the hot mom's phone numbers.

It's about time. :p

Never saw the questionnaire this year. Last year's asked about the delayed return to the court by the inbounder on throw-ins. Hope they throw in the sleeves with the headbands--we ALL know there is NO medical reason for them. Just make 'em legal and put them under the same guidelines. If a kid wants to look dorky, that's his business.

I had a few boys varsity games this past season where players, in some cases, multiple players on the same team, wore long sleeve legal color undershirts. Legal? Yes. Dorky? According to me, yes, but I'm old and not "hip" to new fashion statements. (Is "hip" still a word?)

At least that is what it feels like.

That might have been a team thing. I have not seen very many teams or players wearing long sleeves. And yes "hip" is a word. It is just used more by "old" people like you and me. ;)

Peace

I'll bite. What is the medical reason for such sleeves? There must be one. Seriously. I don't know.

The rules committee did not want to outright ban them. My former board's interpreter was on the rules committee at the time. He said some kid might have severe acne or some other potentially embarrassing condition which is why they made the 'exception'. Guess they forgot about Jack Marin.

I've had a couple sleeves secure an obvious elbow pad in them. When asked, the player actually answered "yes" and for the right (only) reason. I even had one trainer come out and explain the player actually did have a contusion - like I'd question the player further?

But, all but these select few took em off. Just trying to act cool is all.

There are several school districts in our area that don't allow athletes to show their tattoos. This was the beginning of the long sleeve trend.
