More spring league fun ahead!

Just got my schedule for spring league games this coming weekend. On Saturday, I have two boys JV and one boys V game. On Sunday, I have a boys 7th grade and (here's where it gets exciting) two boys 4/5th grade games! This league is extremely competitive and I can't wait to see boys of that age trying to live up to their parent's expectations. A high percentage of the kids who play in this league are there because playing in it is included as part of one camp or another.

One of the largest camps, run by former college player David Lucas (yes, his dad is Maurice Lucas), really does emphasize sportsmanship and fair play but, sadly, that's not the case for many of the others.

I wonder if any of the 4th graders are going to attempt to dunk? In this league, I wouldn't be at all surprised. I hope I get a partner who's experienced in working the lower grade levels.

Who, in the whole wide world, is more experienced at working all levels of basketball than you?

Still waiting to do a Globetrotters game. That would really be cool - especially if I could use a time machine to go back and work the game in which they played against George Mikan!

I once officiated a Harlem Magicians game. They were a "minor league" version of the Globetrotters. Their most notable player was Captain “Magic” Valentino Willis.

Any relation to "Whatchtalkinbout" Willis? He was a heck of a small forward - a really, really small forward.
