New Syracuse Fan
I was listening to Mike and Mike this morning, and that dolt Gottlieb is filling in for Golic. He was pontificating on the “Krewshawooooski effect” on the officials, and saying how he thinks the officials’ respect and even fear of Koach K make it more effective when he rides the officials. I was about to turn it to NPR or something when Jim Boeheim came on. Gottlieb asked about something regarding his team, and he immediately shot Gottlieb’s theory down. “Some of these guys work 100 games a year. Some of them have worked over 2,000 games, listening to us all game long. They aren’t affected by it. It doesn’t work that way, these guys don’t care who wins.”
I’m now a Syracuse fan. |
And all this was after listening to Gottlieb ramble about how awful that Zoubek charge call was. My ears are bleeding.

unless I'm missing something, Gottleib does not think that there is anything to the "Kryszewski Effect" (that's as close as I could come to spelling his name right....). OTHER coaches - who spend lots of time worrying about the officials - think there is a "Coack K Effect", but Gottlieb doesn't think it exists.
I will say that his point about the NCAA tourney but a much better officiated tournament is accurate. If you want to advance in the tourney, you better call the game the way John Adams wants it called (which invaribly is different than the way individual conf. assignors want it called - the "regular season" is where Adams has no jurisdiction/authority). Talent, along w/ very good coaching, tends to take over in the tourney. I think that is the main reason why Duke hasn't been as successful in the last few years. Duke has had good talent - but not great talent in the last decade. |
I think Gottlieb thinks [wrongly so] that if people listen to HIM, that officials must listen to K. I am convinced that Gottlieb gets a disk of his shows minus everyone else's comments to listen to on the way home.

Yeah, he clarified later that he's not sure it exists. But, he also displayed his ignorance by indicating that Coach K (I don't bother trying to spell it correctly) could call up the NCAA and say which officials should move on and which shouldn't. Even what little I know of the process and of Adams, he sounded like a moron. His ignorance has to be purposeful, and therefore inexcusable.
