Murray State/Vanderbilt play

Late in the second half, Vanderbilt scores with literally exactly 1:00 showing on the clock.

The clock ran down to 57 and change before one of the officials stopped it, thinking the clock should have stopped on the basket.

They went to the monitor, and ultimately decided to leave the clock where it was.

NCAA 5-10-10 says that the clock shall stop when a goal is scored in the last 59.9 seconds of the second half. Even though the goal was scored before that point, should the clock have stopped when it got to 59.9?

I thought it was a good call. Goal was scored at 1:00 and the clock should have kept running.

But what's the rule? I should have phrased my question that way.

This was discussed recently in here, but I think the rule was that if the goal is scored with more than 59.9 seconds, it will run as normal. Try a search.

Agreed....the rule says the clock stops when the goal is scored with 59.9 or less. The goal was scored with more than 59.9 on the clock so the clock should have continued to run. There is no provision for stopping the clock when the goal is scored with more than 59.9 but passes below 59.9 before the throwin is completed.

.... and as usual, the announcers had no clue.

bas2456 - read the last part of your post...where you cited NCAA 5-10-10...it answers your question.

since the basket was scored with more than 59.9 on the clock, the clock continues to run.
