BLARGE rears it's ugly head - Baylor vs K State

Why did the lead official not come out with a clinched fist to stop the clock and instead go with the immediate block foul mechanic instead of stopping the clock with a clinched fist and a look to the trail official who came in with a charge?

I'd like to know why the college guys don't use a more patient whistle and at least look at their partner before signaling what they got.

Scott Drew was rightfully upset going into timeout.

The blarge....ugh.

Was the crash in the paint? If so, NCAA-M's mechanic is for the Lead to take that call.

How about a little bit of a description of the play???

The play, as I remember, originated from the Trail's primary with a drive to the basket - the contact occurred as the play was coming toward the Lead outside of the paint; Trail's call and you could see him beginning to show Player Control. From where I sat (a few hundred miles away and limited camera angle) the Lead "jumped" the Trail's call. Although he was already "sold", the Trail did a good job of letting the call go, sidestepping a bad situation which potentially could have been even worse. Learn to hold your whistle!!

What does this mean? Did they report both fouls or not?

Lead decided that a long time before it was even a question - dramatically overselling BLOCK, BLOCK, BLOCK without even a raised fist first. Trail was almost into the Player Control mechanic when he held back but it was clear what he had, and in mine and Scott's opinion the right Player Control call.

Why do you say Trail's call? In my association plays going from Trail to Lead are the L's call. I didn't see the play but by your description it sounds like the L's call-again at least in my association.

In three person, it's generally given to the official in whose primary the drive starts.

That said, it's easier for T to hold the call then it is for L to hold the call.

I thought I saw a link to the game replay on ESPN360 a few hours after it ended....looked again a couple days ago and couldn't find it. Will keep looking.

How about the NCAAM going to the NCAAW's rule where you can't have a blarge...get together and make one call. Seems easy enough!;)
