IU v MI 1976 Final
 

Just wondering...

Watching the end of IU/MI NCAA championship game from 1976 on Big Ten network. Noticed that there were only 2 officials... When did 3 man become standard for college- Div 1-2-3 etc. What about NAIA & Juco?

Or was it a 3 whistle game and one had an injury...?

Old post I know but I found the answer to your question. 1979 is when D1 started using 3 man crews in the NCAA tourney. 1988 is when 3 seperate crews were assigned to regional and the Final 4. Previous to that one of the crews that worked the semi-final round worked the final. Not sure of levels below that.
