Good Camp for a Coach?

I am a coach at the local HS and Middle School and have been thinking of visiting a camp of some sort for officials for a couple reasons. First I also ref the rec league for 3rd thru 6th graders. And second because learning things from other angles often helps a great deal in learning, so I know it would help me when coaching which is my real interest.

I was wondering if there are camps that would be better than others to accomplish this, preferrably something where actually reffing a game isnt required. Just looking for a starting point to get some clinic time etc.

Thanks

There's a really good coaches camp in your area. Here's the two administrators:

Chico State Womens Camp

Yo Bdevil, it's "Wolverine." Chico State has run a great team camp for HS girls for years. New HC last year, but they still did it. There is a referee clinic going on at the same time, so what happens is all the girls games get reffed by the clinicians. They do a great job. Here's a link to the CSU summer camp page

We've sent out JV & Varsity there the last 2 summers.

I would suggest a beginner's camp of some sort. Further, I'd suggest actually getting out there and working the games; the learning process would be incomplete otherwise.

If you insist on avoiding the court time, you could probably contact the camp organizers and inform them you're just interested in the classroom time. I'm not sure if they'll go along, though.

Reading is fundamental. The guy actually wants to improve his coaching by attending a referee clinic. I think that's a fantastic idea. I know I wouldn't spend my money on a referee clinic; at least not until I was through teaching and communicating, and just wanted to be in control and enforce rules. :D

If They Were All Orphans, I'd Still Be Coaching Today ...

For me it was to learn the rules and to stop acting like an idiot on the bench. Twenty-nine years later and I'm a varsity official. I stopped coaching about five years ago. It took me years to decide which one to give up. The parents "helped" me to decide.

So, you prefer getting yelled at by different parents every night as opposed to just the same ones? Bwwahaha! ;)

Hey - you can't expect me to understand stuff while my meds are being held up by the US Customs Service. http://www.runemasterstudios.com/gra...ges/twitch.gif

For me, this was actually one of the big reasons I got into officiating instead of coaching.
