I agree, and wasn't advocating that at all. But when it's clear the defense is trying to foul, I'm going to quickly call the first illegal contact and not let it escalate.

Fair enough. I've called three intentionals this year, and I heard the imfamous "call the first one" on one of them. The problem was, "the first one" was incidental contact that didn't create an advantage.

Teaching players how to foul here is a lost art, IMO.
