backcourt- where do you throw in?

So BC violation and player runs down the ball and gets it all the way in the lane. Do you go endline or back toward hc. Saw it in an NBA game where it was inside the three point line but they moved it back near midcourt. I thought in NFHS you go to where the player touches the ball/violation.

You are correct for NFHS, it's the spot nearest the violation.

After a violation, the ball is awarded to the opponents for a throwin from an out of bounds spot nearest the violation. This is especially true for a backcourt violation, where the ball may not necessarily be put in play at the division line, but, rather, is always put back in play at the spot nearest the violation.

Ok, so why are you asking mutant? Why are you all of a sudden doubting your knowledge of the NFHS rule?

Under NBA rule, all backcourt violation go to midcourt.

NBA Casebook

17. Where and how is the ball put into play on all backcourt violations?

On all backcourt violations, the ball is moved to the midcourt line and must be passed into the frontcourt of the team now in possession. However, in the last two minutes of the fourth period and/or overtime, the ball may be passed anywhere on the court.
RULE 8 - SECTION III - e
RULE 10 - SECTION IX - PENALTY

For NFHS, it'll be at the spot out of bounds nearest to where the violation occurred.
