Parent on the floor

In a loose ball scramble, player goes to the floor, bangs his elbow, and begins crying. His team picks up the loose ball, and I blow the whistle to stop play. I signal the coach onto the floor, but then the player's dad also comes out from the stands to check on his son. Both are complaining about no foul being called. I caution the coach to attend to his player, but parent continues to complain. No security around at that time. Should I have instructed the coach to get the parent off the floor? Could I have threatened the coach with a technical if the parent wouldn't leave? Please advise...

I think I might have mentioned to the parent that they were on the court to attend to their child, if they were finished doing that they must return to the stands.

I assume from the fact that the player was crying this was younger players. If there's no game management around to remove the parent, I would calmly inform the coach that he's responsible for the parents/spectators.

In the future, don't stand so close to the player once you beckon the coach onto the floor.

Word. I get far away from injured players -- it forces the coach to make a choice -- attend to the player or get a technical.

Beat me to it. No need to hover over injured players. Clear the area--that way coaches/parents/trainers can't say a word to you.

Tell the parent to have his child man-up and stop crying like baby or you will give his son a technical foul

Not necessarily so. Could be men's wreck.

Nah - this is the coach after you tell him he can't CALL time out - he can only request it - and he suddenly realizes that he is not in control.
