Not heard by me but reportedly happened to a friend last year...

Coach: Hey Ref! The fouls are 8 - 1!!!!

(Ref Takes a look at the board)

Ref: Yeah coach, in your favor.

Not exactly a coach, but one I heard this year..

One school I work at often has the baseball team practicing in the gym before the game. They hang around for the basketball game and give the refs a fun heckling. At one point, one of them said something like "Hey ref, call it both ways, you'll calling it all against white." Then his buddy piped up and says, "Joe, they've called X fouls on the other team and only Y on us"....First guy goes "Ooops".

Coach: That was a foul! How can you not call that?! He fell over!!!

Me: Coach, here's what I saw--(cut off by Coach)

Coach: I don't want to know what you saw!

Me: Fine, Coach, I don't want to hear what you saw either.

Coach: (nothing for the rest of the night) :)

Do you think it would be fair, in that case, for someone to call you stupid?
It happens to me every time I hit the floor or field and, no, I couldn't care less about it.

I've made some tremendous blunders that only I, or I and my co-official(s), even knew about.

Forgot about this one:
BJV game, 2nd half. V1 shooting two free throws. First one barely hits the rim, and he sees it's about to happen so he starts to run into the lane for the rebound (on the first of two). He may or may not have entered early (I'm lead), but the wildly missed free throw makes it a moot point anyway.

H coach, from 75 feet away: "Lane violation! He can't go in before it hits."

Me when I should have been quiet: "Coach, he missed it anyway." I'm not sure he got it. Honestly, I think it was just a brain fart on his part, as he seemed pretty knowledgable throughout the game.

had this one today...

For a second time in the BJV HS game, I called an obvious player control foul against coach A's team. Coach A's yelled response to my the call the second go around was:

"He was so far underneath the basket, have you never watched college basketball before!!!!"...

Ah, the number of punch lines that come to my head...

Everytime a coach asks me....."Was that not a foul?......Did he not travel?"

Now if the whistle blew, would it not be a foul or violation? I never understand these questions.

Peace
