How are you assigned games?
 

Nearly everything I am assigned requires acceptance through ArbiterSports. Varsity games are scheduled in advance "old school" via e-mail notification from league scheduler.

Is the Arbiter the method most of your schedulers use? Or, are there other applications/methods used?

Personally, it took me several months when I first began officiating to get into the swing of blocking my schedule on the arbiter, but the last few years it has become more easy to navigate and work with.

Anyway....just curious as to what officials from other parts of the nation use.

It used to be the by Assign By Web through individual conference assignors and a couple of people used the Arbiter. Now because Assign By Web stopped running, it is the Arbiter all the way other than those that still give games through email or regular contracts. All post season games are through the IHSA website.

Everything here uses arbiter. Well, I can't speak for rec, but everything else.

We were Assign By Web to start the season, transferred to Arbiter for about 2 hours, then moved to Reftown. It's working just fine in spite of all the turmoil created by ABW closing down mid-season.

We use Reftown for both varsity and sub-varsity.

Used Reftown in Oregon. Using Zebra-Ware in Texas. It does what I need - gives me my schedule and a map to the sites. Now if they could only enter the correct addresses for all the schools, we'd be all set.

No assigner in our parts. We have to contact all school AD's and set schedules based on what they have available. Basically, every man for himself.

Two of the conferences I work in use the Arbiter to assign my varsity games. One conference uses an assigner who assigns games via email. The varsity games I get in a few other small school conferences are directly through the school athletic directors. Any subvarsity games I do I get through a contact at the school district (a secretary usually), plus the one conference assigner also assigns subvarsity games for a few of the schools in that conference. I personally like using the Arbiter; I get notified if I have games, easy to accept or decline games, and the schedule is right there for me. I block out the dates I'm not available and am ready to go.

HS = Arbiter.

Rec Leagues = emails and spreadsheets.

Phone calls and email for the assignors I'm working for now.

Back in South Carolina it was all Arbiter.

KS was league commissioners or individual schools.

In this part of New York, all of the high schools in the county allow the local BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) to handle the assigning. There are probably 50-60 schools that all get assigned together. The ADs and the assigning office can see who the officials are.

However, the officials get notification of assignments by mail (like USPS mail, not e-mail). If there is a change, then the change is sent via mail. We have to accept each change by mailing a form back or faxing it in.

For one game, I got the assignment four times. Original assignment at school A at 4:30. Assignment 2 game switched to school B at 4:30. Assignment 3 game switched to school B middle school gym at 4:30 (I got assignment 2 and 3 in the mail the same day -- I was confused). Assignment 4 game switched back to school A at 10:30 AM. So I got 4 different notices in the mail for this one assignment.

Apparently next year, they are going to start assigning online. It's about time.:D
