Team Control Mechanic

Did I do it right?

I had a foul on A1 when he pushed off B1 to get open.

My sequence at the table was "Blue, 1-2, push, team control (with fist out)"

Right or wrong?

I was taught to say "12" so the scorer does not just hear "1" or "2". Sometimes I will indicate what the infraction is at the end of the report. "Illegal screen", "push", etc. But usually only if it is not out front i.e. outside the arc tableside.

I've been trained to do numbers seperate with the one hand number signal. (1-2 not twelve) I show the team control signal and usually nothing more unless I get a polite request for further information. If asked I will give the other signal ie. push.

I will expand...I verbalize "twelve" and signal with one hand 1-2.

No Blind Jokes Please ...

IAABO manual says to indicate the type of foul first (block, push, etc.) and then the team control fist, both at the spot, and at the reporting area.

My opinion, I would say "team control foul" and show fist extended first before saying push. I know this is what we're trained to do in our chapter.

NFHS Manual ...

NFHS seems to indicate to give the nature of the foul signal first and then follow with the team control foul signal, however, the last clause under reporting has me baffled:

Point of Foul: Lower the foul signal and indicate the nature of the foul by giving a preliminary signal. If a team-control foul, signal in the direction of the non-fouling team’s basket.

Reporting: Give a visual signal indicating the nature of the foul. If player-control or team-control foul, use the appropriate player or team-control foul signal, and only if necessary, the additional foul signal to communicate the type of foul.
