Pink Whistles

Anyone else using the pink whistles tonight and through the weekend? It's the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Awareness Weekend. Our association requested us to use them.

ACS :: Coaches Making a Difference

Foundations Resource Group - where you can purchase a whistle or donate.

We've been doing "Officials vs. Cancer" all week. Some in our association bought shirts with pink instead of white stripes.

I think the whistle and a game fee is sufficient support for me, so I'm sticking with that this year.

This one hits close to home for me being a cancer survivor myself. In fact our past supervisor of officials lost his battle to cancer a few years back. Hopefully someday, they will find a cure to this awful thing.

We used our pink whistles earlier in the year. I haven't been informed about this weekend..... That being said, I always carry mine with me and will go with the flow if my partners are prepared!

Heck, I may even ask them tonight! Thanks for the heads up.

I have a coachs V cancer game on the 11th where did you get your whistle?

Pink Jerseys

Last week, or week before, one of the local Girls' V squads wore pink home uniforms for a Cancer Awareness Game.

That would be interesting to see a pink & black officials' shirt.

The local major junior hockey team has an annual Breast Cancer Awareness night (pink laces, pink ice, pink jerseys, pink tape...).

My younger brother was diagnosed with, and survived, sarcoma in his chest when he was 26. Not everyone survives, though. We've had some forum members lose very close family members.

In my area we were given pink and white whistle this year. We were told that we could wear them the last week in January (this week) to show support for Coaches v. Cancer. We were given pink for breast cancer (to wear at girls games) and white for prostate cancer (to wear during boys games). Last year we were given pink and blue whistles, wondering why they went with white rather than blue this year. Interesting that other areas only do pink.

See link given in OP for a pink whistle, My wife is a breast cancer survivor, she will love it.

Hopefully he's doing good now. I was only 1 1/2 so obviously I don't remember much. I had neuroblastoma. They found a grapefruit sized mass while doing a precautionary xray. Wasn't given much chance, but I am here today. I was told back then, I was the 2nd one to survive it. 40 some odd years living life to its fullest, so for me, every day is a good day.

This is really neat that you guys do this in your own associations or leagues. We don't and I've never really thought about it. I'm sure if it hits home we'll probably do something like what you all do.

Didn't even realize this was the weekend. I do have a pink whistle in my bag but my D3 game was cancelled due to weather.

Sorry to hear that BNR - I'm hoping to get my games in tomorrow, but things are not looking too good. Supposed to be worse where you are though. Good luck

(Don't forget the M-B-TP!) ;)

We've been using the pink whistles since the 18th of January and go through this weekend. Our association used pink whistles and lanyards and co-sponsored a shootout on the 16th of January for coaches v. cancer. A 7 game event.

26 Year Gap Fri Jan 29, 2010 05:08pm

We did this for a week in VT & that assn still does that. I have a white whistle with a pink ribbon. I am going to suggest that to our association for next year. It is a great cause. My mother-in-law battled cancer for 26 years and passed away in November. Both of my parents have battled it and are cancer free. This touches everyone. Thanks for the reminder.
