offensive foul?

BV game fri. night, both teams in the bonus. A1 offensive player w/o the ball fouls B1. Should there be free throws, and whats the proper mechanics when making this call.

If there was team control, then you have a team control foul: no FT's, go the other way. Proper mechanic: whistle & fist up, then fist-point the other way; at the table you could signal a block or hold or whatever.

If there was no team control (for instance, during a throw-in or a try) then you have a common foul: go to the other end for bonus FT's. Proper mechanic: same as any common foul.

"offensive" can mean a number of things, so it depends. If it's during normal play, then no, you wouldn't shoot free throws.

If it's during rebounding action, after the try has been released, you would shoot free throws if the bonus is in effect.

If it's during a throw-in, then you would shoot free throws if the bonus is in effect.
