Official Calling Coach
What do you think about a official going to find a coach after the game to tell them they "blew a call"? Or, calling them at their school and telling them they "blew a call' during his game. Myself and other officials agree that we as officials should never seek out or call a coach. If for whatever reason a call needs to be made should it come from a board member and should the call go to the AD?

I wouldn't say never, but it would be a pretty special situation where it would make sense to me. Would depend on situation, relationship with coach, and even when those two things would perhaps make it permissible, would the act of calling make the situation better?
Interested if you could provide more info on the situation that led to this discussion? |
I can't for the life of me imagine a situation where this would be appropriate.

I have a couple officials that I work with that have done this, but they have known the coaches for YEARS, and their relationship with the coach is strong. Me, personally . . . I won't do it, and I don't recommend it.
If you know you kicked it, and the coach asks you about it again in the future, then smile and say, "yeah, coach, I kicked it." And, SMILE!! Coach will appreciate your honesty, and your integrity. |
Perhaps the best way to own up to your mistake is to get it right every time from now on, including in his future games.

Live with the call, learn from the call, but don't make the call (to the coach)
