Not into it 100%?

Has or does any official ever feel like you are just not into a game? I experienced this last night. I was focused, but felt away at the same time. Even had a couple of frozen whistles, which hasnt happened this year before. Would like some input from everyone if you experience the same thing!

Thanks

Happens to me every year, but in late February. It's more a mental thing with me, having trouble concentrating, than a physical thing. I can concentrate for about three months and that's all she wrote. That's why I don't work much, other than camps, in the off season.

yeah when games get routine and you do too much or even too little. I remind myself to focus. I also start mixing it up by moving more on the court and talking to the players. bring me the bobby Knight coaches because I haven't even come close to calling a T this year. boooooo
I might try some coaching, good to change things.

Whenever that happens to me, I just concentrate on "self-talk" and going to my referee fundamentals.

I just keep giving myself reminders like this:

"patient whistle" "who are my off-ball matchups right now?" "what are my partners officiating right now?" "square up to the defender" "widen out as T as the ball heads to C" "be ready for the curl play" "raise my awareness on dead balls" etc.

Be careful what you wish for, lest it come true.

A Possible Tactic

One thing a guy mentioned to me once, which I have yet to try to employ. He said when he gets into a funk like that he, under his breath, does an actual play-by-play announcer routine of the game he sees before him in his PCA. Works for him, apparently; haven't tried it, but I might if I'd need to.

Ditto for me. I would imagine it happens occasionally to everyone, after all we are human. Some nights it's just a little tougher to focus than others and I have to make more of a concerted effort to get into the flow of the game.
