When Does the 10 Second Count Start?
10.8 says a player/team shall not be in continuous control of a ball which is in his/her backcourt for 10 seconds.
Scenario: A1 throws the ball into A2 in A's backcourt. A2 is being closely guarded by B2. The throw-in is not caught by either player but tips off of the hand of A1 and rolls away. Is my assumption correct that I do not start my 10 second count until Team A secures the ball and establishes control? |

I am thinking that he is using the term "closely guarded" to simply mean the defender was close to the opponent as opposed to the NFHS definition of said term. |
