Dang Snow!

A nice winter storm our area got last night cancelled my game for Thursday and Friday. Hoping things can clear up a little bit so I can get back on the floor on Saturday. Keeping my fingers crossed, but it's probably not looking good.

Don't rush it too much. Always be safe when traveling to and from.

zm1283 Fri Jan 08, 2010 02:21am

I was supposed to have games Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday this week. Monday is the only one I've gotten in so far because of the snow. We'll see about tomorrow's game in the morning. Not a good week.

Welcome to my world.......

Think we dodged a bullet here this time......but, it's still early in the winter!

Great thing about living in the Chicago is they clear snow around here. My game is in tonight.

Peace

I was booked last night and was postponed by noon. Makeup is on a Monday I was off in February, so I didn't lose it. Makes 20 varsity games in 26 days in February for me, though.

Tonight I'm scheduled in the town I live -- I moved here after I got this game. It's rare I have a 2 minute drive to the school, so I'm glad school wasn't canceled today.

jdmara Fri Jan 08, 2010 01:11pm

Unfortunately my game is still on tonight...

Yes, I know I'm being a Debbie Downer. The schools canceled classes but they still are going to have the game because "After speaking with Mr. X, our transportation dept, and Team B, all feel that the conditions will be favorable to play bkball as scheduled tonight." I would normally be all for it but my car has decided to cause me a headache this morning and is sitting in the shop inoperable. I guess it doesn't like being outside at below zero temperatures for over a week. Another reason I should invest in a garage space at the condo.

Schnee Waltz Here

All snowed out this week except Tuesday. Forecast is for 10-20" of lake effect snow tonight across the lake from Rut.
Rut, you can keep it all over there if you want to.
Anybody know any assignors in Central America that need refs?

Rufus Fri Jan 08, 2010 01:37pm

I feel your pain. We had a whopping 1/2" of snow here yesterday and my games were cancelled last night, tonight, and tomorrow. Grrrrrr.

They could use hairdryers and take care of that much snow ;) I was on a conference call with the CDC in Atlanta yesterday and they were all excited it was snowing. They wouldn't stay on task, they kept commenting how pretty it was.

I have been blessed this year. No snow outs for games so far. I am sure that will not last very long, but many times I have one at this time of year, especially with all the snow.

Peace

Practice makes perfect... the snow removal crews up there certainly get their share of practice.

Enjoy your game tonight. :)

We got about 5 inches, cancelled everything Thursday and most schools were on a 2 hour delay today.

My game last night was rescheduled later this month and I could still take it so no loss there, tonights game still a go.

Color Me Crabby ...

Bad season so far. Three games lost to snow. One game lost to a program dropping a team due to the economy. No fillins so far.

But it's a DRY heat...

No snow here in Central Florida...but had a weather related problem this week. There's a cold snap here. Overnight temp around 30 degrees. Local high school responds by turning the heater on in their gym...at 9 a.m. ...and leaves it on ALL DAY. The temperature inside the gym for JV game is hovering around 90 degrees. I ask the AD to turn it off. She claims that it can only be turned off by the school board's computers 15 miles away and that she has been on the phone twice already. By 4th quarter, looks like JV players are going to start dropping from heat stroke. Coaches are b#$%ing like crazy... I told her get something done or I'm cancelling the varsity game. Local custodian to the rescue...he hits the breaker switch and the heat stops.

We don't do cold real well here.

Can't imagine what would happen if it snowed.

Once upon a time basketball was a winter sport. I guess that was the reason my alma mater was wired the way it was. Fast forward 40 years and there's a summer team/officials camp there. The "C" gym is like 100° inside. There is exactly one set of double doors to the outside, and they're propped wide open. But it's 80° outside too. It seems that the scoreboard was wired on the breaker as the heater. You want one, you get the other.

That's why I asked the question earlier in the season.

http://forum.officiating.com/basketb...e-budgets.html

It was just announced that one of our counties is eliminating all Freshman athletic teams due to cash flow problems - sad.

Another is trying to hold on by having parents pay $100 to have their child participate in Freshman/MS athletics.......

Here in the southeast corner of KS

We usually have a couple minor snows a year. Winter ain't that bad.

This year, we've had snow on the ground since 12/24. 14" total so far. A high of 7 yesterday and today, a low tonight of -9. Unreal. Don't know how you all in the north keep your sanity. I am ready to move to Florida. Actually, I guess that may not be far enough south now.

Depends how far south, I guess. But there are not many HS in the keys.

Three to be exact...Key West, Marathon, and Tavernier covering a 110 mile spread.

There's always Puerto Rico and Jamaica!

Well, I was able to work yesterday. Looks like things are returning to normal around here unless we get another storm.

Games all this week except for Wednesday and with the cancellations and games being rescheduled I will probably have a game on Wednesday. It should be a fun week.
