If an ejected coach tells you that he's not leaving, you never, ever argue with him. You immediately tell the timer to put up 60 seconds on the clock and start running it down. Other than taking too long to start the 60-second clock, that is what was done, at least until he appeared on the balcony. It did seem they took more flack from this guy than they should have, for whatever reason. I have actually two wins in my career from coaches refusing to leave after the second T, though to be fair I was winning late in both games.

Sadly, so have I - on a couple of occasions. It's sometimes just part of the job we have to do.

Hey Mark - don't feel bad. I had a 1A GV game 1st week of the season - at the end of the 1st half, both teams had more team fouls on the board than points......

For the past few years, here in Oregon, we have a law that states if a sports official ejects someone (anyone) from the premises and they refuse to leave, they can be arrested and charged with trespassing.

Also, assault on a sports official is a Class A misdemeanor in our state and will be prosecuted. I testified on behalf of this bill a few years ago in a state Senate committee hearing.

I keep copies of each law in my bag.
