Santa bringing you any gear?

Happy Holidays everyone!

Is anyone expecting Santa to leave any officiating gear under your tree?

Santa is bringing me two pairs of Sansabelt Pleated slacks this year.

M&M Guy Wed Dec 23, 2009 03:57pm

Are you kidding me?!?

Santa doesn't have any gear left to give out - you have it all! (I know, 'cause I've seen it packed in your travelling trunk...er, I mean suitcase.)

:D

somebody said reebok shocks are the ticket for old men , pretty sure my santa wife heard me say it. we'll see soon !:)

JRutledge Wed Dec 23, 2009 04:10pm

Santa did not bring it, but I bought 4 new micro mesh shirts a few weeks ago. :D

Peace

showbo Wed Dec 23, 2009 04:13pm

That is a negative.

Santa said 50" plasma TV and PS3 was enough.

Besides I have all the gear I need for now! :)

bradfordwilkins Wed Dec 23, 2009 04:24pm

I bought myself a new pair of shoes for Chankuah (Nike Air Max 360 IIs -- might not wear them until a big game though they are so nice and new hah).

Also bought a few new shirts, some UnderArmour socks (intrigued to say the least!), a few more whistles and lanyards...

And a ton of non-referee related cooking gear ha.

Brad

Shocked, I tell ya. Shocked, I am!

Brad - there are 137 official ways to spell Hanukkah, but that's not one of them. :D

If you're going there, might as well spell it ChankHooah!

I know Mark, not an authorized spelling either!

nah, no officiating gear here. Got a 32" Vizio LCD HD TV and a trainer for my road bike, so I don't have to go outside in 10 degree weather to train for my next cycling season.

tjones1 Wed Dec 23, 2009 11:01pm

Turns out Santa is bringing another item.... 3 strip<s>p</s>ed shirts. Sweet. :p

representing Wed Dec 23, 2009 11:48pm

I was surprised today. I did get a new referee shirt by someone, signed by "Santa". After posting a few tonight, I went to the bar with some of my officiating buddies and the bartender brought me a gift that was dropped off by someone, she didn't know who. I think I know who it was but it was a nice gift from anyone regardless. Only problem is that it was an XL when I'm medium size. But hey, it's the thoughts that count right? Have a good night everyone. See ya tomorrow.

Hopefully, you won't "grow into it!" :)

haha. I've gone the opposite way these last 6-7 years. I used to fit into an XL in high school, went down to a Medium, went back up to Large and XL, and now I'm back down to M and have been that way for the last few years.

I did try on the shirt though, and it's not bad. Probably one of those tighter-fitting shirts that some officials I know have complained about, so it's more of a large in standard sizing. I won't be wearing this until my first official Varsity match on January 28, to "break it in".

Just got word that the "Santa" that bought me the 32" LCD HDTV will also be buying a new pair or two of referee slacks. So, I'm going to need recommendations please. The pair of pants I've used the last 3-4 years are just a cheap pair of pants I bought from a department store. I want to go with those pants without the belt loops that seems to be everyone's favorite, but not sure what it is. Thanks!

Most people wear either the Honig's Pleated, Sansabelt, or Smitty. You can do a forum search to see the discussion we've had in the past on all these slacks.

Honig's
Honig's Whistle Stop

Purchase Officials (Sansabelt and Smitty)
Purchase Officials

Referee's Call (best price I've found on Sansabelt)
Sansabelt Pleated Slack

Not sure but he might be bringing one of the new IHSA logo shirts... He'll bring them after the Christmas tourneys though. I haven't priced them but they say they aren't cheap.

Can't go wrong with either Sansabelts or Smittys. Never wore Clif Keens but they have been around for a long time. But remember beltless have to be tighter than belted pants or you will have a problem before the first quarter is over.

Hey M&M do you really think Santa believes TJ1 needs more stuff? Of course I know he is short on whistles... can't have more than what... oh 2 dozen or so?:D

I've seen them on the Gerry Davis website. The shirts and logo on them look really nice; however, you're right, they aren't cheap - $47.

The rumor floating around our association is the logo is going to be required next year, on the chest and left sleeve (replacing the patch). I find that hard to believe considering I would figure they'd give us a little time to phase out the patch. In addition, I hope if they go away from the patch that they don't make us buy from Gerry Davis. I really like the OC's shirts. Although, I don't know where you'd get the logo from... I suppose time will tell.

I think I'm down to about 15 or so.... I threw six or seven away at the beginning of the season (all were cracked). Don't plan on re-stocking until I go through what I have :D

refnrev Fri Dec 25, 2009 01:10am

Rumor I heard was that they were required for play-offs this year, but haven't heard anything about next year. You have to wonder about them being required and Gerry Davis having an exclusive on them..... hmmm????

I certainly haven't heard that... interesting. I hope it's not true.

It certainly does make you wonder.... time will tell!

Makes as much sense as the Baden balls. Do you dislike them as much as I do?

tjones1 Fri Dec 25, 2009 02:10am

Yes. They are slick and have no grip.

Santa brought be another little gem... what certainly should be a good read and to be honest I forgot I asked for it...

Covert: My Years Infiltrating The Mob by Bob Delaney. Just starting to read it...

Bob Delaney... isn't he the basketball referee that used to be an undercover cop? There was an article written about him somewhere, ESPN or Sports Illustrator. Let me know how the book is!
