Of All People

I commute about an hour for work, and ref in the town in which I live, so it takes me an hour to get to my games, generally. I left with plenty of time, or so I thought. There was an accident just north of town, which meant stop and go traffic for about three miles.

I'm calling every number I can think of and find, getting a hold of my partner's wife to get his cell, the whole bit. I finally show up at 5:30 (game time), and the game in front of mine has two minutes left (whew). I get to the locker room, and two of the varsity guys are there. Including the man who was, until this year, the association president; who was just about to get dressed to cover for me.

Not good.

Just to add, the adrenaline rush from the traffic carried over into my game. I had a hard time focusing, and couldn't stop hitting my whistle on my partners' lines. It was unreal.

Been there. Done that. Only I got a traffic ticket to go with all the rest. ;)

It happens to all of us once or twice if the right things happen. Do not feel bad; just do not make it a habit. I happen to me last year in a snow storm and I called the school and let them know. I did not get in any trouble, it was just embarrassing.

Peace

Did I work with you last night ?

Guy I worked with last night did a nice job. Good communication skills, nice solid calls, hustled, and yet his one 'thing" was he wouldn't leave my lines alone.

I hate traffic!

I always leave in plenty of time to get to my games real early. If I'm not 45-60 minutes early (even at the lower levels), I consider myself late (must be the military in me).

Friday, I was stuck in a typical NVA/DC traffic nightmare. 30 minutes to go the first 15 miles and 25 minutes to go the last 1 1/2. I called my partner and my assignor.

My P and I arrived "early" though as the V Team arrived so late we had to do a running clock and shorter half-time for the FB game just to catch up. Luckily both the FB and JVB games had good flow and we were back on schedule for the V.

NOTE - Always have your P and Assignor's numbers handy in the car!!
