Can the announcer at a high school game do this-

"And the ball goes into the corner to blank, he shots a 3, rebound by Johnson"

I am not certain, never had it happen before.

No. I would consider this sound effects.

So he was doing play-by-play over the sound system?

I don't think that is correct. many gyms do commentary like, "Johnson at the line for 2"

Yes.

Most do it during dead ball periods. There's no way I'm allowing play-by-play during live ball action over the PA.

Combination of 1-18 and 2-3.

Talk about distractions.

I agree with Tjones. If they just announce who scored and who fouled, it's okay. Beyond that, it isn't.

He shots a 3? This guy is a pretty bad announcer. Was his name Billy Packer? :p

Anyone in Chicago area remember the P.A. guy who did many big games in Public league, shootout double headers, etc?

Most annoying guy you've ever heard. Similar to the And One announcer. LOUD volume, all about him.

We've got one in my area that just looks for things to say.

When there's a dead ball period, you can just see the wheels turning....
"Want to remind you, we'll be here until there's a winner... also, there's hot dogs and soda for sell." "Hey, if you've got a birthday, come on down and we'll announce it for you."

False Double flagrant on announcer. Play resumes with the two smallest players Rho-Sham-BOing at mid court for ball out of bounds at half court. New announcer call the play by play. I can't find the book reference.

It was in an interp a few years ago. ;)
