Technical foul after held ball
This happened in a game last night.
During a game we have a held ball. The possession arrow is to the home team. After the whistle, a player for the visiting team swings an elbow at the opposing player but does not make contact. A technical foul is called. The free throws are administered and the ball is given to the home team at mid court. Does the possession arrow change to the visiting team after the throw in? And, if the possession arrow had been to the visiting team, should they have been given the ball because of the “point of interruption”? The alternating possession situation is where my confusion is. This is one of those weird situations that came up during the game last night. It was late in the game with only a minute or so left, so the possession arrow never came into play again, but as I thought about it last night after the game on the ride home, I was trying to remember what we would have done if it had been earlier in the game. |

Assuming this was played using NFHS rules, single technical fouls do not involve returning to the point of interruption. The penalty for a single technical foul is two free throws plus the ball for a throw-in at the division line. As for the AP throw-in, whatever would have happened had the T not occurred ... simply does not happen.
