"F" Word to T of not

Last night, Boys Senior game (Varsity to you US types), player gets trapped and pivots out of bounds. I call the play on bench side, player passes me the ball and yells "I am playing like an F...ing idiot". I whack him due to the volume, but my partner on the stands side says he did not hear it. What do you guys think about it?

Mr. Ref Fri Nov 27, 2009 01:44pm

Whack...

buckrog64 Fri Nov 27, 2009 02:17pm

Yep, let it rip....might help remind him not to do it again, especially in a tight game where it might cost his team dearly.

F = t

If it's just loud enough that I'm probably the only one who heard it, I'll talk to his coach. Any louder, it'll be a T 99.9% of the time.

99 and 44/100 % ???

Snaqwells: Agree. The most important part of your post is that you didn't completely pass on the call, that is, ignore it, but, rather, you did something about it. The coach, and player, will appreciate your advice, advice that will hopefully prevent the player from picking up a technical foul in a future game.

Agree. If you heard it, it's got to be addressed. And since you're going to address it, why wouldn't you T this? It is an early season game, where nothing is at stake. This is a great time to remind the kids of the penalties that accompany such behavior. In the end, you're doing the kid a favor by whacking him today rather than letting it pass, tacitly reinforcing the behavior, and to some degree setting him up to get whacked for it in a regular season game.

It depends on where I am at, where the comment was made and how many people heard it and who they were talking to. Nothing should be automatic, but it should be addressed.

Peace

A little off topic...

A little off topic but I believe still relevent. During a varsity basketball game... I had a coach to mutter under his breath...."Next time I hope they send me a varsity crew...." He said it under his breath with his back turned and I am sure that I was the only one to hear it, but I agonized later on not whackining him for that one....If for no other reason the fact that he makes a practice of making snide comments under his breath in all of his games. The comment caught me a little off guard and I failed to whack him when I thought that he possibly deserved it. Of course his conduct did not improve throughout the game and maybe if I had whacked him then...(this situation was in the first few minutes of the game) perhaps the game would have been better because of it.... Your thoughts please.....

I find I agonize more over the ones I didn't give, than the one's I do give.....as you are doing too.

Sorry, I'm not a country music fan, and didn't know what you were referring to until I did an internet search. My post referred to the original Ivory Soap, which was 99 and 44/100 % pure.

"Next time, I hope I get a varsity coach." You're right.

I'm not conducting a survey

If I hear it, it's as good as the whole gym hearing it.
