Start of dribble

Hi! One question: is it legal to start a dribble with two hands, not just to drop the ball, but actually push/tap it with two hands and then normally continue to dribble with one hand?

Tnx for the answers!

Of course. Why is this even a question?

The start of a dribble can be a very confusing thing. One hand, two hands, no hands. It can be tricky:rolleyes:

Heh... This is a question because we were playing some ball and the opponents started to call me for that... It was the same to me: just dropping the ball without moving your hands or tap it with both and than continue one-hand dribble... Tnx again for the answers (although I know I will not accomplish anything :)

What were they calling you for? Two-Handed "Double" dribble?

misoja Thu Nov 19, 2009 04:00am

They don't call it 'by name' they just say it's illegal, but as I've said, I'm not doing this in the middle of the dribble but at the beginning...

It's not so important (I don't know why I was even doing it that way, I don't have a problem starting the dribble with one hand) but now I'm just curious... :)

Oh -- a question about pick-up game rules. Those might be different.

SECTION 15 DRIBBLE
ART. 3 . . .
The dribble may be started by pushing, throwing or batting the ball

to the floor before the pivot foot is lifted.

misoja,
Please note, the number of hands used to start the dribble is not part of the rule. ;)

Just as I thought! Thank you all, guys!

Didn't you hear? NFHS has claimed authority over all pickup games in the US. It was a little-known part of the stimulus bill this past spring.

So, Lego ball is the start of the dribble, correct?

Suddenly, I wish I'd had breakfast.
