Cool Gadget

Last night I was pregaming with a new official. I noticed the game ball was a little flat, so I asked the athletic director to put some air in the ball. He came back later and said he couldn't find the electric pump. I said no biggee I have a pump in my bag. The new reff said, "you carry a ball pump in your bag?" "Well, yeah, of course!" ( I actually just bought it last summer) I whipped out this hand pump that costs $8 and its made by Nike, called a dual action ball pump. The pump is about the size of a hot dog. I added three pumps of air to the ball and we were in business. My partner looked at me like I had just found the cure for cancer. This is the first time I've needed a pump in 10 years of officiating, but I would recommend it to all officials due to its compact size and cost. It comes with 2 extra needles too! Google "Nike Store, dual action ball pump" if you want to purchase one.

Concur

Last week we were doing our last games of the V Fall Rec Season. We had three evaluators there.

As we were going through our pre-game, one of the evaluators asked if anyone had "an air-pin." None of us understood what he meant until someone said, "Do you mean a needle?" He said yes. I was the only one who had a small pump and needle (which oh by the way I carry in my rather large bag as recommended by this Forum).

I have only used it a few times (mostly Rec level), but it is always great to have and appreciated when it's needed quickly.

This is the one I have. Picked it up at Target.

Mikasa Sports USA :: DAP - Dual Action Hand Pump

Mine only came with one needle though and yours (which looks nicer) seems to come with two. Works like a champ and is certainly handy to have in my bag.

Or you can save $8 and get another ball that has the proper air pressure in it. At most games there are no fewer than 15 balls in the gym one of them will have the appropriate amount of air.
