Dribble me this

A1 dribbles down the court, then comes to a stop and picks up his dribble.
a) A1 then tosses the ball off of B1’s leg and then retrieves the ball and starts another dribble.
b) A1 then tosses the ball off of A2’s leg and then retrieves the ball and starts another dribble.

I know we've been over this before, but I can't seem to find the threads. Nor in the rules.

Whachagot?

Thanks Snaq. You know the rules reference for this?

Rule 9-5 ...

SECTION 5 ILLEGAL DRIBBLE
A player shall not dribble a second time after his/her first dribble has ended, unless it is after he/she has lost control because of:
ART. 1 A try for field goal.
ART. 2 A touch by an opponent.
ART. 3 A pass or fumble which has then touched, or been touched by, another player.

This question reminded me of an interesting thread about a year ago.

Follupup on that old thread

Just to followup on that old thread (that I originally started) that Indianaref just referred to, one of the commissioners from the IHSAA did confirm the clinician's ruling last year; that is, the interrupted dribble would NOT be considered a pass. I haven't had the chance to look at the new interps in this year's casebook, but I'm hoping NF might plug that hole in the rules someday.

But as others have said already in regard to the OP in this thread, yes, that should be play on in both cases, as A1's actions would be considered a pass.

Since the State Association has confirmed this ruliing, when should we consider the interrupted dribble over? I am guessing that our only options are when the ball becomes dead or a player gains player control.
