2009-2010 Rules Changes NFHS
I've been doing basketball since 1973 and this is the first year that there are virtually no rules changes, i.e., nothing substantial, only the ability for states to adopt replay (ain't gonna happen here) and the use of the red light on the back of the backboard (already installed on some around here).
Our state interpretation meeting last week was not very useful. |

This year's points of emphasis provide plenty that can and should be covered in the interpretation meeting including travel, 3-seconds, closely guarded, block-charge and free-throw admin. These are all areas begging for more consistent enforcement and effectively using the rule interp meetings would help.

Our state meeting was cancelled this year.

I think this is a good thing. It helps to get High School refs singing the same tune across the U.S. and moving toward more consistency. Not having an interp meeting is a huge missed opportunity. |
In Iowa, for football, the rules meeting was offered on-line for the first time. I assume they will offer the same opportunity for basketball. It was real nice not having to possibly drive to a meeting.

In Georgia our state meeting was online this year. I liked the flexibility and was glad for the refresher even if there weren't any major revisions to rules this year.

I disagree with you guys. I like live meetings where things can be explained. You do not need rules changes to need things clarified. The other changes are editorial changes and there are POEs as well. I attended a live meeting on Sunday and I would have not had it any other way. Then again our local associations are having meetings, but we can also take the online version.

Fewer meetings = :)

I'd love to have meetings where there was real information and real discussion. Unfortunately, every year here I travel over an hour for a 15-minute "review" of rules changes we've been covering in our local meetings for several weeks.
Yet, if you don't attend...:( |
