Game fees

Just wondering what your average game fees are for each level?

For us, highschool 2 person is 36 bucks per official per game... going up next year most likely.

More like the land of needlessly complex accounting. What's with all those lovely, round numbers?

Alabama

Varsity - $40 three man
JV - $35 two man, although this year my association is going 3 man in most JV games to help the younger officials get some experience.

This isn't exactly as it depends on the league we are working....these numbers are reflecting of the specific games I got:

Varsity Girls (3 person) - $59
Varsity Girls (2 person) - $66
JV Girls (2 person) - $55

We also have "frosh/soph" games (for public schools) and "freshman" games (for private schools). These are around $49 or so. Also note that I am assuming the boys games are paid the same. I just noted girls because those are the games I got.

After many years of annual, or biannual, fee negotiations with our high school sports governing body (CIAC), it was decided that our fee will based on the average increase in teacher's pay throughout the entire state that year. Let's say that the average teacher's pay increased 2% this year, that means that basketball officials also get a 2% fee increase this season. I believe that it works this way in all sports. It saves the CIAC, and each of the officiating groups, for many sports, a lot of negotiating time. We've been doing this for about 15 years. All parties seem to be pleased with the process.

And all worthless, imo. All the pay is "local" -- what an official is paid in CT or CA has nothing to do with what an official is paid in IL or IN.

Why not go 3 man with that game fee? Charge the schools the same and each person is still making $57 per person.

Better officiated game.

Because officials don't want to give up $30 a game.
