What's your call

A1 on a fastbreak lays the ball up & in. Before the ball completly passes through the net B5 intenionally slaps the ball back out off the basket. By rule, is there more we can do besides counting the bucket?

Say it's in the closing moments of the game & B5 is trying to stop the clock?

Basket interference, score the basket...nothing else here...keep is simple

Be really slow on the whistle..let the ball bounce on the floor a time or two...maybe 4-5 seconds. ;)

You could maybe use the following to call a T (after implicitly declaring that the try was actually successful and already dead):
ART. 7 . . . Delay the game by acts such as: a. Preventing the ball from being made live promptly or from being put in play.

This is basically what they did....not so direct...but you could make it stick.

If they want to give up 2 points for the BI in order to stop the clock, I suppose that's their prerogative!

Good stuff thanks all!

I see no difference between this to stop clock and fouling to do the same.

If the try is over and the ball is dead, how does anything B does keep the ball from being made live?

However B may slap, bat, throw, or otherwise affect the ball, it's B's ball. Let the clock run and start counting to five.

By batting it into the stands. I suppose you could declare it at their disposal and start counting, but I'm going to guess that it will get pretty ugly if you do.

You''re probably going to have to call something on this play in order to get the bucket counted since it never passed through the basket (and didn't stay in the basket). If the crew is really sharp, you might be able to immediately communicate with the scorekeeper that he bucket was scored prior to being batted..and that would be a stretch...all without blowing the whistle and stopping the clock.

If you have to blow the whistle, and you probably will, then you better come up with something that properly and equitably penalizes the action. Counting the bucket alone may not be adequate.

I still suggest just letting the clock run a couple seconds before blowing the whistle. :D

I agree with this, but my thought is violation or nothing. I'm with the "call it by the rules" guys on this one. BI is a violation which has its own specific penalty.
The fact that is stops the clock is a quirk which becomes an unintended benefit in this case, but seems to me to be one of those things that everbody must accept.
