Team A has possession under pressure. A1 makes a cross-court pass to A2. A2 has 1 foot out of bounds. While the ball is in the air, A2 (still having 1 foot out of bounds) calls for timeout.

My partner did not grant the timeout, because A2 had a foot out of bounds.

We discussed after the game, and neither of us were sure if this was the correct call. Any comments?

Brian, you have to have player control to call a time out. Your post sounded like the ball was in the air at the time he called the time out. If you have player control, it doesn't matter if another player is oob. Did i clear up your question?

Bart is absolutely correct. Although team control continues during a pass between teammates, player control does not. A timeout should NOT have been granted during this situation, but the reason has nothing to do with location of A2. The reason is because there was not player control at the time of the request.

absolutely,,player control, not just team control. you wouldnt give a time out if the ball was rolling across the floor or in the air on an attempt would you?

Be careful Chels, Team control ends on an attempt.

Team control does exist during a pass and an interrupted dribble (ball rolling around on the floor).

You are correct is stating that under all of these conditions you can not call a time out.

I guess i got a little carried away in my
explanation, John.
