This diddn't happen to me, but I am curious how you would call this:

A1 has the ball and A2 sets a screen on B1 near the sideline. (A2 sets it according to the rules.) B1 either seeing the screen or bumping off of the screen goes out of bounds the comes back in to get back to a defensive postion with A1. T-Foul or let it go for a good heads up, because real damage done????

If the player is coming off of the screen, and goes out of bounds I will let it go, but if he goes out to aviod the screen, I will let him know not to do that again at the next oppertunity. I know that people will say if he goes out T him/her, but sometimes talking gets you out of more trouble.

Stay out of trouble. Don't look for things to call. The play you described doesn't happen enough to make an issue. I'm not convinced the intent of the rules applys to this play.

Usually I just yell at the kid to stay inbounds. This point has been discussed at least twice previously. I agree that this is not the intent of the rule. It covers players leaving the court to go to the bench during play, etc.

From what I remember of the Casebook situation covering this rule, it appears at least one intent is to prevent the OFFENSIVE player from gaining an advantage by avoiding a screen by the defense (such as on the baseline), then getting open for and receiving a pass, thereby getting an open shot he wouldn't otherwise have had. In the sideline situation described, I agree with a no-call and telling the guy to stay on the court next time.
