Talking A little OT - kids baseball story

We're having a bunch of reconstruction done to my town home development and one of the workers also refs in our local kids rec league. He told me that his 13 year old son umpired some kids rec games (not official Little League) this summer. In one game, one of the dads was being a typical jerk and kept yelling about the calls. The 13 year old asked him to "please stop". Apparently, the guy didn't let up. The kid then took off his mask, approached the parent, pointed to my friend who was in the stands while saying something to the jerk. The guy got up and left. After the game, my friend asked his kid what he said. The kid said he told the guy, "That's my dad. He's in the mafia. If you don't knock it off, I'll have him call a few of his buddies and they'll come here and break your kneecaps."

We don't think he really believed the kid, but hey - for whatever reason, it worked.

Priceless.

funny wit by the kid...maybe the Dad owed the mafia some $ and thought he should high-tail it.

Sounds like he's either been to a bunch of your games or you've trained him well Mark!

Actually, I usually say "Russian mob" instead of "mafia". Seems more contemporary. Besides, even though I grew up in an Italian neighborhood, my family is originally from Russia. I'm just trying to be loyal.

Padgett, talk this kid into doing basketball. He'll be a real keeper if he makes it to the big times.

He's going into 8th grade. He can start reffing in our kids rec league when he starts HS. He's on my list.
