Todd,

If they did not have player control, to reestablish position on the court, do they need 1 foot to touch in bounds or both feet to have touch the floor in bounds??? I'm pretty sure it's both feet but since we are on the subject....

A1 saves a ball from going OB, he leaves the court in the process. may he return to establish him (her)-self and be the first to touch the ball?

Todd VandenAkker Thu Mar 09, 2000 11:38am

Yes, as long as he did not have player CONTROL just before he went OOB (for example, had he started his dribble just before going out, or caught the ball then tossed it to the court before going out and returning).

DrC,
Only one foot is required on the court to establish position after being OB

Todd VandenAkker Thu Mar 09, 2000 03:43pm

Right, only one foot is needed to re-established on-court position, but the other foot, of course, must not be touching the floor OOB. This sounds easy enough, but in a fast-paced game situation it is easy to get caught off-guard and blow the whistle thinking it's a violation. Because it "looks" somehow wrong and wierd, one's immediate reaction may be that it WAS wrong. It caught me twice this year, much to my chagrin. What did I do? Immediately approached the table, called it an inadvertent whistle, and gave it back to the team that I thought had violated. Got no argument either time.

Thanks ... Dave and Todd.....
