Auerbach and Jackson vs Referees - a difference?
 

The article (link below) compares Phil Jackson to Red Auerbach and contrasts their styles and eras. I thought the below excerpts were interesting:

"The relationship between the referees and the coaches has also drastically altered through the years. It used to be Standard Operating Procedure for coaches to loudly and viciously curse and threaten refs with violence during games, with Auerbach universally conceded to be the worst offender. During Auerbach's early days on the bench technical fouls cost a coach a mere $25. So when an enraged Auerbach would storm into the officials' locker room after a loss and rudely challenge Sid Borgia to fisticuffs, he was only fined $25."

"Compare this to the $25,000 penalty Jackson has to pay for questioning the authenticity of referees' calls during an in-game interview."

Things may be better now, but Jackson is still a baby.
And Krewshewooskie is an a$$.

One must remember, Red was doing his boisterous yelling and screaming with a cigar sticking out of his mouth at times.

Let's Take Closer Look At This ...
 

Red Auerbach's annual salary for his first season with the Celtics, 1951-52, was $10,000. A fine of $25 would represent 0.25% of his annual salary.

Phil Jackson's annual salary is reported to be $10.33 million, the highest salary for a head coach in the NBA. A fine of $25,000 would represent 0.24% of his annual salary.

Looks like the NBA fines for coaches have been pretty consistent over the years.

Perhaps as a percentage of total income, but $10.33 million in 2009 is dramatically (300x) more the median US income while $10k in 1952 (about $65,000 in today's dollars) was a about 3x the median income.

Red's fine would have been a bigger impact than Phil's. It didn't hurt red, but it wasn't like it was pocket change.

Of course, you compared Red's first season salary with Phil's current salary, but that is a different issue. It would have been a better comparison to use Red's final salary or Phil's first salary.
