Summer league canceled - boo hoo

Just got notified today that the summer league I was planning on working has been canceled because they didn't get enough kids to sign up. It was going to be for boys and girls in 2nd through 6th grade and was billed as an "instructional" league. It was supposed to start the last week in June and go for eight Saturdays, except for the 4th of July. I was probably going to get three games each Saturday.

Hey - it wasn't that much, but it was something to do. They're going to be running clinics instead and they said if they needed any refs for those, they'd let me know.

Gee - I guess I'll just spend those days vegged out on my couch watching movies on cable. Better check the waist size on my uniform pants.

BTW - for you local guys - this was The Hoop in Beaverton.

Looks like an organized place.

I've heard of some instances where organizations pull the ol' league has been cancelled bit to shake particular officals.

Just kidding Mark :D

Parents probably just caught wind that there would be no chance for the excitement of OT so they pulled the plug early.

I heard, through informed sources, the league was canceled due to the inability to get enough COACHES as so many had apparently been T'd up and tossed during previous seasons they didn't want to sign up for anymore "ref abuse"...... That's just a rumor though.....

The summer league I was planning on working has opted to use a volunteer (non-certified ref) alongside one certified official in every game. Hence, the opportunites have been cut in half.

For me, they would be cut entirely. Who would want that grief?

Unless the other "ref" was someone who was willing to learn & also represents the craft well. Other than THAT, point taken :)

All of my partners in my Rec Leagues, summer and otherwise, are "unpatched." Having one who is willing to listen, learn, and run the court is a welcome blessing.

Unfortunately, in these kinds of situations my eyes tend to wander as I try to cover/am expected to cover, too much of the court......and that gets me into trouble developing bad habits for the regular season......(watch your primary and trust your partner).

Yes, Rich - point taken. Grief? You betcha!

Wow, the summer stuff around here may be lower pay, but at least I'm working with patched partners.
