Mother's day massacre

I'll keep it short. In a qualifying AAU tourney for nationals, I had a 10 year old game and before the tip I had all the players turn to crowd and say HAPPY MOTHER'S day.........lots of smiles and applause.

We called the game with a minute to go, when we tossed both head and assistant coaches. the last thing I heard from a parent after a string of verbal abuse to which I kept smiling and saying thank you was "go back to your garbageman job"

Hey, I wouldn't mind their pension from the city of Chicago.

You gotta love this game!

And all of those rule changes mid-stream, too.

LOL had a similar deal. Parent berating me as I leave the floor of a pretty heated girls game. He gave me the "he'll take fries with that order" spiel.

We shower and we're being escorted to our cars and there's the human motor mouth getting into his 10 year old battered Ford truck.

I was good as I got into my 2008 E500 German car. I didn't have the heart to let him know I haven't worked since I was 38.....

Though if I lose interest in this officiating gig I might go find a job....But probably not. :D

Do other's get "escorted to their cars?" Is this normal? Just this tourney?

While I've had a few heated games, I've never thrown out folks, had it carry over after the game, had cops or Administrators take action, etc. Maybe I'm lucky. Just curious as to how prevalent this is?

Thanks

I've had an actual escort to my car once; after a game with a fight. I've found out later about an adminstrator stepping in to stop a parent from following us to the locker room (my partner had issued this guy's son a flagrant personal in a freshman game). The administrator was one of our top varsity officials.

In one city-rivalry where I work, I have received an escort...after the freshman game! There have been other times where the AD has come into the locker room and asked us to wait until certain people either left the gym or were otherwise preoccupied. I did have to call the police once after a 6th grade travel game when an assistant whom I had tossed waited in the lobby and refused to leave. Of course, the officer who came happened to be a close friend of mine.

20 years newer than my truck.
Nice.

Mick, your Reagan-era truck is probably a badge of something favorable in your neck of the woods. As you know that's not the case everywhere. ;)

My partner and I were once confronted by an irate dad on our way to the lockerroom following a 7th grade game. The AD stepped in and we proceeded to the lockerroom. The AD came in a few minutes later to tell us the guy had gone ballistic on him, the principal, and visiting AD who came over to help out. That was when the AD learned that the man had been kicked out of a game at the visiting school's gym the week earlier and was now banned from any sporting event. A police officer was escorting him to his car. Oh, he was also the visiting school district's Board of Education President.

Actually had a cop and an assistant principal escort me and my partner from a 2nd floor auxiliary gym where we had just worked a freshman boys game, on our way to the officials locker room, which was in the basement of the main gym. When we arrived on the concourse floor of the main gym, the place was crawling with about 20 cops, in anticipation of the boys JV/V doubleheader between the same schools we just worked. Was told a huge fight broke out the year before, so the security was upgraded. The cop also mentioned it wasn't a coincidence that the police chief was in the gym we were just in, not only because his son was playing, but because he was part of the security detail. Crazy.

Another one: football, we actually had to follow the reservation cop off the reservation after a game, flying through town with his lights flashing and the two vehicles going about 70 in a 25. Once off the reservation, the nice officer pulled over and said we could change behind the rusted out tractors and combines on the side of the highway. Nuttier still!

Wouldn't say it happens alot in our area but it does happen...This was a High School game during the regular High School season. At this school it seemed to be almost SOP.

There's nothing wrong with a little hard work and an old truck. :D
