The Southwestern Athletic Conference has named Sally Bell Women’s Basketball Coordinator of Officials and Reggie Cofer Men’s Basketball Coordinator of Officials, Commissioner Duer Sharp announced today. Bell and Cofer will be responsible for the assignment of officials for all SWAC women’s and men’s home basketball games, respectively, along with overseeing and monitoring each official.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Sally and Reggie oversee basketball officiating in the Southwestern Athletic Conference,” Sharp said. “They both bring excellent credentials and many years of experience to us, which can only assist with the continued growth and enhancement of basketball in our Conference.”

Bell currently works as the Coordinator of Basketball Officials in the Southland and Sun Belt Conferences. Bell was an official for more than 30 years in both the collegiate and professional and international ranks. Bell was an official for the SEC, ACC, Big Ten, Big East, Atlantic 10, and Colonial Conferences, along with Conference USA, the Horizon League and the WNBA. Bell has also officiated with FIBA, the world governing body of basketball.

Among her assignments include 15 Women’s Final Fours (1989-90, 1993-2005) and the 1986 Olympic Trials, the 1990 World Championships, and the 1996 Olympic Games.

Cofer currently serves as an NCAA Regional Advisor, evaluating basketball officials in 6 different conferences, as well as the regionals of the NCAA tournament. He has worked as a basketball official in the ACC, SEC, as well as the Big East, Big South, Southern, and Colonial Conferences.

Cofer has worked in various conference tournaments including the ACC Championship Game and a number of NCAA Tournament appearances, including a pair of NCAA Sweet 16’s, and one Final Four, the 2003 National Championship Game. Additionally, Cofer assisted the Peach Belt Conference with the scheduling, training and evaluating of officials.

This is now just officially getting announced?

I find it interesting that the article mentioned "responsible for the assignment of officials for all SWAC women’s and men’s home basketball games." I wonder how much the unassigned game at Grambling (vs. Talladega) had to do with bringing in a new supervisor on the men's side.

I haven't heard, what's the story with the unassigned game?

From what I remember reading Grambling had a non-conference home game against non-D1 opponent, Talladega. No officials showed up. The SWAC office stated it was the responsibility of Grambling to secure officials for the game.

Here's a rather biased internet article, http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com/2...ck-on-the-bus/.
