Rules Committee Meeting

Recently concluded. So, we should be hearing of any changes in the next few days.

Mark Padgett Thu Apr 16, 2009 09:45pm

I heard one change is that for every player with a bad haircut, it's an indirect technical on the head coach.

Game's A Draw Guys, Everybody Go Home And Kiss Their Sister ...

Mark Padgett: Great news for you. The NFHS is going back to using one of Dr. Naismith's original rules, Rule 13, with some minor changes:

In case of a draw, the game may, by agreement of the officials, be continued until another goal is made.

I just contacted the good Dr. and he told me he fully supports this rule. In fact, originally, he put it in just for me.

Actually, what I found was:

In the case of a draw the game may, by agreement of the captains, be continued until another goal is made.

Everybody knows officials are not agreeable.

And yet we are subjected to the same one over and over. Doesn't seem fair.

When 2 teams meet, whose coaches expect the officials to put them on the line all night. At the discretion of the officials, in lieu of a normal game, each official may inform each coach that each team will have their starting 5 line up at the free-throw line and shoot 10 free throws each. The team that hits the most free throws out of 50 wins. If there is a tie score, each head coach will shoot 10 free throws. If there is still a tie, a shootout will commence and the first coach to miss loses. Officials receive full game fee and if the game is decided by the coaches at the line they will receive game fee and a half.
