Phrase I never want to hear again...

Charity Stripe. Ugh. What a dorky, meaningless thing to say. it's not charity, it's restitution. And that thing painted on the floor isn't a stripe, it's a line. Stripes come in multiples.

Toggle Rant Off.

I understand your feeling about this term that doesn't rub many of us the wrong way. I only wish we could all understand how we each have things that push our buttons.

For instance, it rubs me the wrong way when officials find a reason to call across the paint or out of their primaries. We will always have a reason to do something and a reason to not do something. How we choose to use those reasons can easily become an excuse.

Toggle rant off.

What pushes my buttons is when officials, at halftime or after the game, try to justify their weak calls and you can tell that they are just making excuses.

"Boy, those 3 and-ones I called were hard fouls. Those are some talented players to have finished those off." TRANSLATION: "I have had some really weak whistles tonight and I want to justify them before they get brought up for discussion."

"Boy, the white team was sure fouling a lot at the beginning of the game. That was stupid that they put the other team in bonus so fast." TRANSLATION: "My whistle tempo is way too quick so I anticipate calls and I put fouls on players that don't deserve them. But if I blame the team, maybe it will take the spotlight off me."

"Hey guys, I hope you don't mind that I called those 4 fouls in your areas. I just thought they were too hard to let go." TRANSLATION: "I have no discipline and I want to blame you for the fact that I call all over the floor."

As long as others are contributing, let me toss this one out there:

"that was a good piece of officiating"

(end rant)

That usually means "We have you again next week and I'm just sucking up."

Usually if a partner starts out like that, I have a reason to use the toilet for about 7 minutes (until game management gets us for the second half).

Oops, bad example.

I want to shoot whoever came up with that stupid phrase "Ball Don't Lie".

Hate it. Now everytime a player goes to the free throw line and they miss the first one, someone will inevitably say "Ball Don't Lie" or some form of it. It just drives me insane...

Nor I. But it's dumb enough to become wildly popular.

Well, I'm no trend setter and am certainly NOT going to bring it up!

I first heard it 45 years ago, or so.

Everything that's old is new again.

I hear it on a regular basis. Is that a bad thing?
