FYI: Oakland Police Officer was a referee.
Just learned that one of the 4 police officers who were killed after shootings in Oakland yesterday was a basketball official in Oakland prior to working full time in law enforcement.

One of the police officers shot and who died this morning was John Hege. John was a basketball official with our association for about 8 seasons before he became a full time peace officer. John was a kind and generous young man. John worked part time as a peace officer with two different municipalities and still made time for going to ball games working as a leader for our student-athletes. John loved to talk to people. He didn't care what kind of people it was or what level of social status a person had, he wanted to know about people and if he could in any way help them.
