Question Foul on shooter's team while ball is in the air

If a foul is called on A2 while shooter A1's shot is in the air, the ball does not become dead until the shot is made or missed, correct? Treated the same just as if a foul was called on B1, right? If the ball goes in, in either case, basket good, yes?

Unless of course, it's a PC foul called on A1.

This is one of those rules that I was confident of all season, but after a long season, I'm getting fuzzy.

You have this correct.
If the foul is on B1, then the shooting motion only has to have started. If it's on A2, the shot has to have been released.

Of course, if it is on A1, it won't matter regardless.

That would be correct if A1 sitll has the ball or is still airborne, but if the foul occurs after A1 has released the ball and landed, the ball remains live until made or missed.

Some ex- my ref knowledge is dimming a bit since the season ended so need a refresher
if A1 shoots and B2 fouls off ball. A gets ball near spot? Or in bonus fts?
A1 shoots and makes but B2 fouls while in air. Does B get ball unless A is in bonus. So foul on B2 but A ball if not bonus
3. A1 shoots foul by A2. Ball goes in. Count the basket but B1 gets ball. Would they shoot bonus?

1. Yes, OOB near spot of foul or bonus if applicable.

2. No, B does not get the ball, A gets the ball near spot of foul or bonus if applicable.

3. B would shoot bonus if applicable (no team control once shot goes up) or OOB if bonus not applicable.

2. So even if A makes a basket they could still get the ball back again near the point of the foul? Is that what it is in NCAA, doesn't really seem right...not sure

A.R. 117. During a try for goal but after A1 returns to the floor, B1 commits a holding foul. The foul occurs before the bonus. The attempt is:

(1) Successful; or
(2) Unsuccessful.

RULING: A personal foul shall be charged to B1 in both (1) and (2) but no free throw shall be awarded to A1 in either case since A1 is not an airborne shooter and Team A is not in the bonus. In both (1) and (2), the ball shall be awarded to Team A at a designated spot nearest to where the foul occurred. (Rule 4-69.6, 10-1 Penalty a[1] and 7-5.4)

Sure it's right. B commits a foul, A gets the ball. The fact is, it's a call that's not made very often, because if the basket goes in there's not a whole lot of advantage. If, however, B1 pushes the shooter back 10 feet in the guise of "blocking out," you've got to make this call. IOW, this call really needs to involve some displacement.

That's NFHS, maybe NCAA as well but I don't know for sure. Look at it this way. If you call the foul on B2, what is the penalty if A doesn't get the ball?
