Why is this such a "joke"? The kids have fun, they get exercise and display good sportsmanship. That's what rec leagues are supposed to be about. The girls get to play through their senior year and the boys are all freshman and sophomores. They play V level rec after that.

About 3/4 of the girls that start as Freshmen stay all four years and virtually all the boys play all four years. Obviously, they don't think it's a "joke" and that's what counts.

Maybe so, but we're wearing stripes.

Dude, don't sweat it. Some people need to put others down to feel better about themselves. Not everyone has good meds.

Who comes to games with flashlights?

Depends. People figure out very quickly that you're a doctor, so you end up being the unofficial team/league physician. I lost count of the number of injuries (on and off the field) I looked at during my son's little league years.

A lot of us bring some type of supplies or first aid kits to games.

But regarding the OP, who knows why neurosurgeons do what they do...:p

I am a volunteer firefighter and paramedic, I always have a FA kit with me and when I am on call I carry wear my responder belt to the gym.

I agree that people get to know you have the skills and will call you out often.

I had a similar experience in a football game. One of the dads (a former Division 1A football All-American) came down on the field and the coach (a father of another Division 1A football All-American, and a Big 8 All-Conference selection during his own college days, married to a former Olympian) said, "Doctor, can you take a look at this?" Without hesitation, the good doctor took a look at the kid. I felt in awe because all three are associated with the University of Nebraska. My white hat looked at me and said how often are we gonna stand on the same field with these three again???

My partner asks the guy if he's sure she's OK. The guy gets this patronizing look on his face and says, "Yes, I'm sure. I'm a neurosurgeon."

This ain't brain surgery...nevermind...This ain't rocket science.
