Nevadaref Sun Mar 15, 2009 06:51pm

I'm dancing!

I'm going to Boise for the 1st and 2nd rounds this year!

Here are the match-ups that I'll get to see (plus the four winners come back on Sunday):

6 Marquette
11 Utah State

3 Missouri
14 Cornell

5 Florida State
12 Wisconsin

4 Xavier
13 Portland State

That's a good mix of power schools and small conference teams as well as the fact that all eight teams are from different conferences.

Has the chat room link been created? If it has, please post.

Posting it here would be good.

Double posting it would help M&M Guy in case he doesn't see it the first time.

Shouldn't our group's tiebreaker be something like total number of Ts called in the entire tourney?

The last time the Orange came from a 3-seed to win the title, I won this pool with my entry, SuperFunky HowlerMonkey. History to repeat itself? Entry #55.

Or if a game you got right was due to a T called to avoid OT?:D

Several yrs back when Ky won the title, I chose for my wife for her office pool. She knows zippo about the teams so I chose for her and had KY winning the tourney. She won $100 and worked in an almost all male office - they were none too happy with her/me! :)

26 Year Gap Thu Mar 19, 2009 07:44pm

It appears only 2 of us picked UConn. And none of the 2 are BillyMac.

Same here. After Day 1, she is 14-2 and I'm 12-4. My 10 year old son is 14-2 also.

Adam Fri Mar 20, 2009 08:42am

Well, I'm 12-4, and none of my sweet 16 picks are out. There's still hope.

JugglingReferee Fri Mar 20, 2009 09:03am

After day 1, Nevada and Rut are tied for first. :D

buckrog64 Fri Mar 20, 2009 09:25am

12-4 and 13-3 seem to be popular results after day 1. Next year I'm going to pick my teams based on their cheerleaders or some such thing. More scientific.

26 Year Gap Fri Mar 20, 2009 09:48am

Growing up hating UCLA, I cannot bring myself to pick them very often. Close but no cigar last night, but I think they will be done after tomorrow, so that should help with the rest of that bracket.

Wake was my only one to lose.

But my wife picked Siena (I was impressed with that pick even before the game went into OT and then 2OT) and I didn't and that made the difference in the first round. 24 to 23, I lost. I imagine I'm near the bottom of this pool with 23, but there's still time.

grunewar Sat Mar 21, 2009 07:36am

Including play-in game, I am 25-8. Only sweet 16 to go down, similar to many, was WF.

Think anyone's still in the running for the $1M perfect bracket? Cleveland State and Sienna?

26 Year Gap Sat Mar 21, 2009 08:00am

If I get the final right, I could be in the running in the group. Not too many of us have UConn winning it all. BC & Wake getting bounced from my Sweet 16 wasn't helpful. A split of the OT games was a wash, I guess.

JugglingReferee Sat Mar 21, 2009 09:19am

After the first round, ESPN's leaderboard lists 35 people having 310 / 320 possible points. No perfect brackets this year.

How many of the 35 got tripped up by Cleveland State? I will guess at least 2/3rds of them.

He got called for traveling twice in the game, which is twice more than I recall seeing before.

Rich Sun Mar 22, 2009 06:47pm

I had Marquette and USC advancing out of this round and there was a shot until really late in both of these games. Had I won those, I would've been in really good position.

I still have my entire elite 8 left, but I'm way behind now.

I have UConn over UNC in the final. If that combo happens, I will pick up a lot of points and make up some lost ground.

Actually, I grew up in the hometown of the former Heavyweight Champ of the World The "Easton Assassin" himself, Larry Holmes.

Our proudest moment was when he ran over and across the the hood and top of a car and jumped to attack his opponent in the street.....all captured on film. Heck, he was WWE before they even thought about it!

Well,

I had a good run in this years tournament and actually was in the lead for awhile:) But with the games yesterday, my bracket is officially finished:( For the people of Michigan who have had a terrible time with the economy, I hope that Michigan State pulls off winning again (and that is hard for me to say being a Michigan fan!;)). Interesting Stat

Just shown on ESPN - 18,700+ people have the correct four teams in the Final 4. That was .4% of all brackets picked.

With the last two teams in the running being MSU and UNC, here is what will happen:

If UNC wins, Major Cord wins the pool with 1,680 points.

If MSU wins, ref18 wins the pool with 1,370 points, 10 points more than Major Cord has now with 1,360 points.

Maybe if ref18 wins it will bring him out of hiding!

I'm surprised no one has brought this up, but leave it up to me to point out the irony in the simply wonderful story about how it is Michigan State University who helping out the city of Detroit. Every story you hear and read mentions how it is Michigan State University who is playing so close to home, and bringing all their fans to their adopted hometown of Detroit.

So, did Ann Arbor fall off the map? :D

It would be great if it went into OT so both of them could sweat a bit.

I thought they stopped playing sports in Ann Arbor.

The ESPN winner was joet7247, who had a perfect bracket except for 4 games in Round 1.

This person failed to call the AZ/Utah, Maryland/California and Siena/OSU upsets. Also missed the Ten/OkSt non-upset.

They did, but no one told the players.
