Superfan

NFHS

During warm-ups 2 participants of the home team had different colored uniforms than the rest of the players (18 total participating in warm-ups) It was obvious their basketball skill level was not as good as the rest of the team and they spent most of their time rebounding and throwing the ball to other players and just having a good time.
I had a chance to ask one of them in warm ups if he knew they all had to wear the same uniform. At that point he said: Oh, I'm not a player, I'm just the "super fan" and won't be participating in the game.

Anybody heard of this? Is it legal? They were having way to good of a time for me to tell them they couldn't warm up with the team.

I wouldn't get involved as long as they're not dunking.

It's nothing.

Remember Jason McElwain? You wanna tell him that he can't grab rebounds? :)

I'd say they're considered bench personnel and would be treated like you would an assistant coach or ball boy.

Was he wearing a cape or something? Are they jumping buildings in a single bound.

No cape. But it did seem to be a very coveted position. They had tons of fun feeling a part of the team and I gathered it was something the school had done all season long. Maybe a reward for good students.

They may have possibly started a trend??

If so, I think the administration caught a good idea!
